On the Indonesian island of Java, twenty kilometres from the fast-growing capital city Jakarta, is a malodorous, contaminated world with towering hills of half-decomposed waste, that stretches as far as the eye can see. This monstrosity is Bantar Gebang, the largest uncovered landfill site in Southeast Asia. It is also home to over 3,000 families, many with young children, who make a living amongst the garbage, scavenging what they can.
Tashkent metro - if you plan to visit Tashkent make sure that you schedule some time to see this awesome attraction. Tashkent has three underground metro lines (Red, Blue and Green) with total 29 stations. Each station is devoted to a different theme and tells own story using its unique architecture, ornaments and mosaics. The cost of one trip is just $0.12c (UZS 1,200) for any length of a trip. This means that you can see each station as long as you stay within the metro system. The metro works between 6 am and midnight and trains run every 4-6 minutes.

Going Places! (The Travel Group) November 2020
Some of our clients are asking if people are travelling again. Surprisingly, more people are flying places than you might expect – albeit mostly within Canada. Few are flying for the fun of it – mostly people are travelling on essential business or for urgent friends-and-family issues. That being said, many savvy travellers are taking advantage of future deals and the temporary relaxed change/cancellation policies of most travel suppliers.
Something else motivating clients to book now is the worry that the best travel options will sell out early. Regent Cruises, for instance, had its busiest day on record last week when it launched it’s 2022 program!
For upcoming Christmas and Spring Break holidays, Mexico is the clear winner for our clients. It’s nearby, it’s open for business, and bookings are flexible in case you have to change plans. In fact, the “book with confidence” policies of most airlines, tour companies, and cruise lines have worked better than expected: they are inspiring even some of the more intrepid travellers to book early while prices are low and normal penalties waived.
Here are some takeaways from our survey:
- When the change fee is waived it is a “no-brainer” - book now while prices and airfares are low. They will be increasing.
- This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity visit a destination that would normally be overrun with tourists. There will probably never be a better time to, say, view polar bears in Churchill or see Machu Picchu without the crowds.
- Some clients admit they like being seen as a “trailblazer;” while others tell us that simple “cabin fever” is driving them to plan an exciting trip in the future.
- A lot of hope has been placed on the prospect of a COVID-19 vaccine being rolled out in early 2021; but the worry is that if we delay planning a 2021/22 trip too long, all the choice spots and offerings will be sold out! For the next few years, the consensus in our industry is that demand will outpace supply.
Since March, our consultants have been taking advantage of the slow-down to focus on education and specialization. When you re-engage with your favourite travel consultant in upcoming days we think you’ll be impressed with their new knowledge and skills.
