@Eva zu Beck takes you on a journey to Cholula and Puebla, two cities in central Mexico designated as Pueblos Mágicos, or Magical Towns. These are places that offer visitors a very special experience, owing to their typical historic character and in some cases, colonial-era architecture. As well as a spectacular pyramid and a miniature volcano, the towns are a great place to experience the Danza de los Voladores, or Dance of the Flyers. Pyramid or volcano – which floats your boat the most?

Iraq wouldn’t be most people’s first choice of destination. The country has been considered unstable for a long time now. The German foreign office warns people off visiting. Years of dictatorship, war and terrorism have left their mark. But this country between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers is also a cradle of civilization, where some of the earliest advanced cultures developed. Travel vlogger @Eva zu Beck explored ancient Babylon, once one of the most important cities of antiquity. Back in Bagdahd, she visited bazars and cafés, and immersed herself in the Iraqi capital’s nightlife. Watch her adventures! Good to know: Since April 2021, travelers from 37 countries no longer have to apply for a visa in advance to enter Iraq. Instead, you can get one on entry. For a long time it wasn’t that simple. So Eva grabbed her chance at the end of 2021.

It’s easy to spot the Venetian Island of Burano from the sea. The jewel-colored homes act like a beacon, which is what they were intended to be. According to , local fisherman started painting their homes in bright colors—hues of orange, red, yellow, and purple—so they could see them while out fishing in the fog and could follow their colors back home. Now, the practice has become law, and if you live on the island and want to paint your home, you must ask for permission from the government, who will assign your home a color. For visitors, the homes are just a welcome dose of cheerfulness.

There’s one overwhelming reason travelers flock to this tiny Italian city (pop. 365,000) amid Tuscany’s rolling green hills: Florence has more than one million works of Renaissance art—among them Michelangelo’s David and Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. It’s also the birthplace of global fashion brands like Gucci, Pucci, and Roberto Cavalli, and the city’s most influential fashion clan—the Ferragamos—have turned their renowned sense of style to four hip hotels across town, breathing new life into the previously staid lodging scene. Add to that succulent Florentine steaks, some of the world’s greatest wines, the traditional artisan workshops of the Oltrarno, and Brunelleschi’s famous masterpiece dome, and it’s not so hard to see how Firenze remains as popular as top European cities five times its size. Florence, the center of the Italian Renaissance, is a city filled with towering cathedrals and exquisite art (think Botticelli, Michelangelo, da Vinci, and more). From here, you have access to the Tuscan countryside, where you can pair delicious seasonal fare with standout Chianti wines. Partake in the Duomo-capped city's many restaurants, shops, bars, and things to do using our Florence travel guide.
