CANADIAN CELIAC ASSOCIATION Vancouver Chapter

Canadian Celiac Association – Vancouver Chapter
Can you imagine being sick after every meal, being weak and tired all time, and having a wide range of symptoms that your doctor cannot diagnose? That is what life is like for over 46,000 British Columbians who struggle with undiagnosed Celiac Disease. Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disorder that has over 300 different symptoms or no symptoms at all, yet damage is still being done to the body. This explains why it takes an average of 12 years to be diagnosed. And because Celiac Disease affects our entire immune system, eating gluten-free is only the first step in regaining our health.

Established in 1979 by a doctor and parents concerned for their children, the Canadian Celiac Association – Vancouver Chapter is 100% managed by volunteers. Your donations will allow us to fund valuable research, provide evidence-based information to the public to assist in earlier diagnosis, and support for those diagnosed to change their lifestyles, follow a strict gluten-free diet, and become healthy.

The Vancouver Hospice Society (VHS) was incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in December 2003. It was formed by a group of concerned individuals who recognized that Vancouver needed a Hospice Society to advocate for those facing end-of-life care issues and their families.

The Vision of the VHS is to build small freestanding hospices, where the dying can live with dignity and where family and friends feel welcomed and supported as part of the care team.

To achieve this vision, the Society acquired property to build a 6-bed freestanding Hospice at 4615 Granville Street that provides care to as many as 150 patients each year. Our new Hospice opened its doors to the community in April 2014.

All this has been made possible by individual donors and by the achievements of our two successful volunteer-run charity shops, The HOB and HOB Too, as well as our annual Butterfly Gala fundraising event.

Vancouver Hospice Society continues to support palliative and bereaved individuals in their homes, hospitals, care facilities, and at our Hospice. We offer children and family grief support, a bereavement walking program, vigil services and 1:1 palliative and bereavement support, healing touch and hospice volunteer training.
